Knit and the Status Quo
Vessi’s proprietary Dyma-tex waterproof construction defined the brand’s early success, but it also limited material expression. In order to maintain waterproof integrity and fit, early footwear relied on a narrow range of engineered knits that were functional yet visually restrained. Engineered knit became a non-negotiable both as a performance requirement and as the primary visual language of the product.
Over time, this material expression settled into two paths: a rolled knit based on standard supplier offerings, and a custom engineered knit developed from a brand perspective but refined only incrementally season to season. While effective, both approaches lacked visual progression and limited the ability to evolve the aesthetic constraining cultural relevance and broader consumer appeal.

As the design language evolved, knit innovation became a critical opportunity to translate the brand’s emotional driver of playful directly into product. Every silhouette required a knit expression that felt intentional, expressive, and unmistakably Vessi.

To guide this evolution, a set of aesthetic and functional drivers was established shaping how knit could move beyond surface treatment to become a core design language. The goal was to create knits with both visual and physical depth, where texture, pattern, and construction work together to communicate energy, movement, and purpose.
New engineered knits explore layered textures and dynamic patterning to create tactile engagement, while improved fit and ergonomics elevate comfort and performance. Water, its movement, tension, and adaptability served as a creative filter, informing knit development and reinforcing Vessi’s waterproof DNA.
